Herbal Fertility
March 2012
© Anne Calzada Herbalist

As I write this, it is a beautiful spring day in the Rockies. The feeling of plants awakening and birds returning, I am elated in happiness and  in love! This reminds me of fertility and rebirth, with many people wanting to become pregnant now. The energy is here and alive as always. So beyond doing the usual practices such as calculating your ovulation and perhaps even putting your legs up against the wall after love making, (if you are a lady ! ) there are herbs that can help you to ready yourself for your adventure!

*Nourish yourself with herbal infusions such as Nettles, Oatstraw, Red Clover or Red Raspberry. These plants will infuse your body with most importantly minerals, but then vitamins, amino acids, proteins and sugars. These nutrients help to create a strong healthy body in respect to connective tissue, organ functioning, rebuilding and cleansing to the body.  These plants are also traditional fertility promoters!

To make an herbal infusion which is like a really strong tea: Add one cup of herb to a quart jar. Pour boiling water over it, cover and let sit for at least 4 hours. Make it in the a.m. or before you go to bed! Get creative....drink hot or cold, add to smoothies, juices or soups!

Yoga poses can be very helpful for balancing and strengthening the 2nd chakra. Poses such cobra and upward facing dog tone the reproductive centers. Poses such as bridge or inversions flush the blood through and cleanse the ovaries and refresh the energy.
Practicing Ujjayi breath to calm, strength and center you will be helpful for stress, anxiety, high blood pressure or emotional upset. It is known as the "breath of victory" in Sanskrit. This pranayama will increase oxygen and sooth your soul!
Meditation and focused intention bring results. Thought, spoken word and written word, action and patience. Practice mantras and affirmations internally and externally. You are creating!

Use real Rose oil over your heart chakra, pulse points, uterus or wherever you want will uplift your spirit and enhance your vibration.  The Rose family is traditional for fostering the vibration of love! Drink Hawthorn berry Rose tea. Eat Almonds, Raspberries, Blackberries,  Apricots, Cherries, Apples and Plums all related! Eat foods that promote fertility!
