Your breath is your lifeblood. Without it, you would not survive. Something so basic, that we don't even really think about it. When we do think about it, we usually realize that we are taking a deeper breath or that we need to take a deeper breath. In yoga, there is an acute awareness of your breath and its power for transformation. It is oxygenating, circulating, blood building and chemistry changing. For purification of the bloodstream and to balance the chemistry of the left and right hemispheres of the brain, practice Nadis Pranayama or "Alternate Nostril Breathing". It is both invigorating, balancing and grounding. This Pranayama creates deep feeling of well being and harmony emotionally. It is very simple, takes little time and is of immense benefit.
Sit in an upright seated position with a straight spine. Rest your left hand on your knee in the position of guyan mudra. To do this, bring your index finger and thumb together and hold this position.
How To Do It:
Use the ring finger of your right hand to close the left nostril and inhale deeply through the right nostril. Close off the right nostril with your right thumb and exhale through the left nostril. Close off the left nostril with the ring finger of your right hand and inhale deeply through the right nostril and continue alternating sides. Continue for as long as desired. ♥
