Self Heal
Prunella vulgaris

Self heal is a wonderful little plant that is a member of the mint family. Its common name of Self Heal refers to the fact that it has been used widely. Vulgaris indicates that it is a common plant. It is cooling, drying and somewhat bitter and sweet. It is astringent and antiseptic to skin problems or wounds. It's febrifuge properties help to lower fever and reduce heat in the body in general. It has hemostatic and immune stimulating properties that will reduce bleeding and it also stimulates white blood cells. This plant works well with reducing liver heat and inflammation. It helps to promote good digestion. It is also helpful for bruising, skin wounds and injuries as it reduces inflammation and helps to promote constriction. Use it as a fresh plant poultice for skin ailments such as insect bites, scrapes and boils. Menopausal women may find relief with this plant! Throw some fresh plant in a pitcher of water! You will feel refreshed, cooled and cleansed after drinking Self Heal water. Containing some pain relieving properties, you could make a massage oil or a skin oil from it. Prunella also helps to relieve congestion and toxic accumulation, hence it's alterative properties. Due to its astringent properties, this plant is traditional for gum, mouth and teeth ailments. You can use it a s a mouthwash to tighten and firm gums. Make tea, tincture, elixir, oil, honey or bathe with it. It is completely edible. You can juice it. Or add it to smoothies or salads. It promotes self love, healing and acceptance. Let the Love begin!
