Mugwort

Mugwort is a very statuesque herb. She is full of both magic and medicine. The name Mugwort is the common name of this beautiful plant. The Latin name itself, Artemesia vulgaris has interesting etymology. Artemesia is thought to have been given in honor of the Greek Goddess, Artemis. She is the Greek Goddess of the Moon, the patron of women, a hunter. The name Mugwort refers to its common uses. Saint John the Baptist is said to have worn Mugwort for protection. It is well known that Mugwort has been planted in many a wise woman's garden!

Mugwort is analgesic, anti-inflammatory, astringent, antibacterial, antifungal, antiparasitic, antispasmodic, bitter, carminative, cholagouge, digestive, emmenagogue, uterine stimulating.

Long used in Europe, Mugwort is a pandemic plant growing easily along riverbanks or disturbed soil. It is easy to grow and lovely to have in the garden. Herbalists use Mugwort for digestive issues. Upset bellies. We use it to cleanse the body of worms and parasites. These can lead to digestive distress. It is a cholagouge, so it will cleanse the liver and gall bladder, releasing bile to support digestion. Acupuncturists use Mugwort in the process of Moxa, burning it on acupuncture needles on the appropriate points to cleanse, heal and strengthen.  

Native Americans traditionally used Mugwort tea for colds, flu, upset stomach upset and even bronchitis. Mugwort tea is very bitter. You can dilute it. You can then use it as a compress for the skin. Use for scrapes, rashes, infections like ringworm, athlete's foot.

Mugwort is an emmenagogue and is used to induce menstruation. It is used to reduce cramping. To work with your cycle and strengthen you. This herb is NOT for use during pregnancy.

Mugwort has been known to calm and strengthen the nervous system. Helping people with insomnia or emotional upset, strengthening the person physically and psychically. 

This plant has long been associated with dreamtime. Using it in dream pillows is traditional. It lulls you into lullaby land.  

Burning Mugwort as a smudge is great. It purifies the environment of lower negative energies. It has a history of usage against bad vibes. Having a purified space will always increase the peace. Cleanse you aruric field in the bath with Mugwort. 

Mugwort Tea

Pour boiling 1 cup of water over 1 tsp of herb. Let it steep. Mugwort tea is very bitter. Dilute your tea. 

Mugwort Hair Rinse or Foot Soak

Make tea, steep, strain and use as a fianl rinse for dandruff and scalp health. This will strengthen your hair and promote growth. Soak your feet with some Mugwort tea. Remove athletes foot.

Mugwort Massage Oil

Steep fresh herb in a jar, cover with oil of your choice. Let it macerate for one Moon cycle. Press out, add essential oils like Lavender to enjoy a beautiful massage. Use for pain, wounds, bruises, scrapes, rashes, sore muscles, foot rubs, belly cramps or uterine cramps. Moisturize you hair!

Dream Pillow Blend

 1 part Mugwort

1 part Rosemary

1 part Lavender

1/2 Part Chamomile

3 drops of Clary Sage Essential Oil

Amethyst Crystal

Blend and sew up your pillow or fill a sachet! Sweet dreaming!
