The Magic Of Pine
Revered by many cultures and held Sacred is the nourishing wisdom of the Pine tree. The Pinus species is the ultimate healer and protector. They grow everywhere. There are over a 100 subspecies in the Pineaceae family. Pinyon, Ponderosa, Scotch, Lodgepole, White, Red etc. They manifest a protective energy wherever they live. Pine trees are conifers, reproducing through cones and are evergreens that have needles that remain green, never changing colors like other foliage. They live for many years, some are hundreds if not thousands of years old. They truly are the guardians of the forest. They nourish wildlife like birds, animals, insects and people. Pine wood is used to build or keep us warm as we know, and Pine sawdust is used as a base or fixative in incense making. In fact, people have used Pine Medicine for thousands of years. It is known that Pine needles are rich in Vitamin C, the wood and bark is high in tannins and the resin is antiseptic. The Pine tree is antiseptic, antiviral, astringent, antibacterial, antioxidant, analgesic, expectorant, tonic and a rubefacient.

Many cultures including the Native Americans of this continent were wise to the use of Pine, sharing Pine needle to tea to prevent scurvy and using Lodgepole Pine to build teepees.  Pine needle tea infuses the body with vitamin C, expects phlegm out, calms a cough and soothes a sore throat as well, enhancing immunity. Pine syrup will do the same. So will just eating the raw fresh needles off the tree and of course Pine nuts are delicious! Pine is used in the bath to open the lungs, increase circulation and ease arthritis and muscular pains. Just cut a few boughs and wrap them up and throw them in a hot bath or you can add in a few drops of Pine essential oil. Pine washes or resin used in a healing salve will soothe rashes, cuts, scrapes, eczema, psoriasis, boils, lung congestion or even splinter removal. Pine has the reputation as an aphrodisiac because it balances male hormones, increasing both strength and stamina because of its high concentration of phyto testosterone. Pine is used to enhance longevity.

Pine is used in Ceremony to clear, cleanse and consecrate. We bring Pine inside the house to celebrate and decorate the energy with Pine tree medicine. People have been harvesting Pine for Christmas and Winter Solstice for thousands of years. Wreaths are made and hung inside and outside. The vibrational essence of Pine is used for relieving guilt and enhancing forgiveness. Pine is indicated for grounding and centering. Meditate with trees, sitting at their base, or use them with yoga asanas. When you see a Pine out there, stop to give thanks, with a high five to a branch, a sweet hug or a simple acknowledgement of thanksgiving for its beautiful presence. Plants and trees appreciate your offering of kindness just like people!

Green Blessings,
