 Herbal Blends For Wildfire Smoke

© Anne Calzada Herbalist

As the Earth heats up and the amount of people on the planet expands, the danger of wildfires is real. Always an issue in the Summertime, it seems that the frequency is increasing. Doing what we can to be responsible and caring for ourselves and the living beings around us is paramount. Plant more trees around you. Nourish and heal your environment. Water the trees and plants that live by. Use water responsibly. Water early in the morning or late in the evening to help preserve the water table and also to increase the plants water uptake. Realize that if you live in the woods or the mountains, that your land is populated with different kinds of wildlife, even if you don't see them. You can always leave out water for them if you would like to. That is compassionate and kind.
The smoke that hangs thick in the air due to wildfires can affect the health of the respiratory system affecting both people and animals. Some people are more sensitive to the smoke than others. Symptoms can include dry red itchy eyes, burning dry nasal tissues, coughing, headaches, lung congestion, sinus infections and even dizziness. Stay hydrated, drink lemon water, eat chilis, onions, garlic, jalapenos, parsley, carrots, apricots, goji berries, watermelon. Use spices such as cinnamon, cayenne and ginger. Add 1000 mg of Vitamin C a day especially if you smoke. Increase yoga and pranayama indoors to strengthen the heart chakra and the immune system. Here are a few practices that you can create that promote respiratory health and wellness.
